April 2009

April is Autism Awareness Month

With an average of 1 in 150 children being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs), CDC believes ASDs are an urgent public health concern, and is committed to working with partners to improve the identification of people with an ASD, learn more about what puts people at risk and encourage efforts to provide appropriate support for people with an ASD and their families.  In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, NCBDDD has developed a feature for cdc.gov, widgets in English and Spanish for your webpages and an E-Card that focuses on learning the signs of development delays, so parents can act early.  We do know that early identification and intervention are important and can help a child reach his or her full potential.  Please feel free to share the links with friends, family, and colleagues.
