DFW Center for Autism's Family Support Course & Full Scholarships

The DFW Center for Autism's Family Support Courses are now being scheduled. Full scholarships are available.

The Family Support Course is a service developed specifically for families and for use in the home and community. Included in this service is individualized training to ensure successful implementation of behavioral strategies in the home and community. The strategies learned through training can then be utilized with children with developmental disabilities to build basic functional skills, most importantly being communicative behaviors that can replace and alleviate maladaptive behaviors.  Parents and other participating family members will additionally gain the knowledge and experience necessary to utilize measurement systems to evaluate progress.  This training is derived from the principles of ABA and incorporates the highly successful and empirically validated naturalistic treatment strategies
known as Pivotal Response Treatment, developed through 20 years of research by Drs. Lynn and Robert Koegel at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

The course begins with a workshop-style lesson of the principles of ABA
and naturalistic-styles of treatment addressing:

*  Empirical support and basic principles of ABA
*  Motivation
*  Communication
*  Challenging behaviors
*  Pivotal Response Treatment
*  Individualized video feedback & follow up

The DFW Center for Autism has received a training grant that is making it
