Carmen's Corner: Meetings in Spanish!

These incredible mothers will let us know what they did to have significant improvements in their children. Come to listen to their stories.
We will have a summarization of some of the treatments that works with some of our kids.
Do you know that kids and adults should have one dominance side of the body? This dominance side should include feet, legs, arms, hands, ears & eyes. Would you like to learn more? Get some ideas on how to help your child improve his dominance side.
Come share information with other parents.

Presentacion:
Estas increibles madres nos diran lo que hicieron para lograr el recuperamiento de sus adorados niños. Ven a escuchar sus historias.
Tambien tendremos una sumarizacion de los tratamientos que han funcionado con algunos de nuestros niños.
Sabias que niños y adultos deberiamos tener un lado dominante ya sea el lado derecho o el lado izquierdo (Pies, brazos/manos, oido, ojos, etc). Te gustaria saber como verificar si tu niño tiene una parte dominante o no? y tener ideas de como ayudarlo.
Ven a compartir informacion con otras familias.

7pm: Networking & Speaker on Music Therapy: "Music Therapy is an established healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages. Music therapy improves the quality of life for persons who are well and meets the needs of children and adults with disabilities or illnesses." This presentation will provide an overview of the practice music therapy, especially in services provided to those with autism. It will also include examples of music therapy activities and procedures used with clients in both individual and group sessions.
8pm: The Coffee House program for youth/adults with Asperger's or High Functioning Autism. A representative from MHMRA of Harris County will talk about Social Skills programs available, and talk about starting a satellite location during our monthly meetings!

The Autism-Disability Blurb is a newsletter about events and information in the Houston and surrounding areas... it is the newsletter for the Northwest Houston Chapter of the Autism Society of America. We appreciate your help in forwarding this to any parent or professional in our area, who you feel would benefit from this monthly newsletter!

The Houston Autism/Disability Network meets the 1st Thursday of each month except January, June, & July. Our meetings are from 6:50p - 9:00pm, at Graceview Baptist Church in Tomball, TX.
Our annual Autism/Disability Resource Fair & Conference is held the 1st Saturday in October. If you would like to be a speaker or exhibitor, please contact us!
Monthly Meeting features:
* NEW - Spanish group! Facilitated by Carmen Pulger, (see below), they will meet in a different area and have speakers in Spanish for Autism Issues!
* New diagnosis support - our chapter officers are at each meeting to talk with any new parent about concerns they have, resources they need. Come find one of us and we will talk with you in another room and help you on your journey as best we can!
* Childcare - provided by the JOY Ministry of Graceview Baptist Church. You must register at TheJOYLady@msn.com.
* Video room - for youth with Asperger's to have a social time that is supervised by the JOY Childcare volunteers.
* The Autism Store - autism awareness jewelery for sale - proceeds benefit our chapter.
* Snack/Coffee bar - sign up to donate refreshments for us to sell, proceeds benefit our chapter!
* Lending Library - check out a current book on Autism Issues
* Resource Table for parents - donate your used autism/disability books or magazines for others to have to read! If you are an organization or service provider, mail us copies of your brochure for our Resource Table!
* Break-out sessions for adult issues - for parents of adults with autism.
* Different disabilities are represented - parents can sit together and network about their unique needs and concerns for their child's disability
* Monthly speakers on different topics - who share information of interest to the Autism and general Disability Community. If you are a speaker or professional and would like to donate your time to speak to our group, please contact us!
* Now available at our monthly meetings free of charge - in addition to the topic of the month - parents can meet in another area for an informal presentation on an area of Special Education: ARD's, IEP's, Advocacy, ECI, IDEA, Ten Tips for Parents, Documentation.
