Speech Tip of the Month
ALL IN THE
FAMILY
As
the holidays are here, it is an important time to
focus on family. Here are some ideas to get your
child to interact with and identify family members:
-
Include family pictures into your child’s visual
schedule (Example: If your child is going to the
park with dad, put a picture of dad and the park
together)
-
Set
the table with photo place cards. Have your
child help set the table and seat family
members.
-
Make a
book (or photo album) of your family, with every
family member having a page. Read the book with
your child, having your child point to the
pictures and then point to the person.
-
Make
ID tag necklaces for every family member with
their picture on it (this can be as simple as
taping a picture to cardstock and attaching a
string to it). Make a fun game of finding the
person who belongs to the ID tag and putting the
necklace on them.
-
Include family pictures in your child’s PECS
book
-
Play
family Bingo. Make a bingo card with family
member pictures in each square. Duplicate these
pictures for the draw bag. Pull a picture out of
the bag and match it to the card.
-
Label
room doors in your house with a card with that
person’s photo and name. Point out the picture
when entering the room.
-
Make a
scrapbook with your child of the memorable
moments in their lives, and include pictures of
family members.
Enjoy the holidays!
