Speech & Language Tip
of the Month
“Let’s Get
Visual”
As the New Year approaches, we all like to start fresh. In
our organizing and planning, this usually means
getting a new calendar. There are many out there to
choose from. You can have a cute picture calendar
with your favorite cartoon character, a Day Runner,
your cell phone might have a calendar, or you might
have a computerized version on your Outlook/ Palm.
The point is, we all need some sort of visual to
help us organize our lives. Think of this when
considering a visual schedule for your child. Your
child will benefit in the same ways you do with your
calendar. This will help your child organize their
thoughts, be able to prepare for upcoming events,
know what is expected of them and anticipate what
will happen next.
